Modern House Numbers Creates Monument Sign Numbers for The IVY Luxury Apartments
A monument sign is often the first thing a visitor or prospective tenant sees at an apartment community. At The IVY Luxury Apartments, owner Brandon Matheson used new monument signage from Modern House Numbers as part of a makeover of a 70-year-old, 37-unit apartment complex.
Modern House Numbers creates monument sign numbers for The IVY Luxury Apartments. Modern House Numbers made 15-inch letters and 8-inch and 12-inch numbers for The IVY monument signs. The IVY monument signage uses the 'Santa Barbara' font in brushed aluminum. Modern House Numbers crafts address signage from solid recycled aluminum.
Monument Sign Letters and Numbers for an Apartment Community
Modern House Numbers made the letters and numbers for the updated monument signs at The IVY. The signs use 15-inch letters together with 8-inch and 12-inch numbers in the 'Santa Barbara' font, finished in brushed aluminum.
According to the owner, "The updated monuments give us great visibility from the street." For an apartment community, that street visibility is practical: residents, guests, delivery drivers and anyone touring the property need to find the entrance quickly.
Why The IVY Chose the 'Santa Barbara' Font
Font choice was deliberate. "The 'Santa Barbara' font style was chosen as a nod to the history of the neighborhood," the owner explained. On an older property, address signage can do more than identify a building. It can connect a renovation to the character of the street around it.
Modern Curb Appeal for an Older Property
The monument signs were one part of a wider plan. Asked how to add modern curb appeal to an older or historic property, Brandon Matheson said: "My top tip is to use fresh paint, contemporary hardware, and thoughtful landscaping. Using these finishing touches at The IVY helped to blend the new with the old. We're really pleased with the outcome."
The exterior paint at The IVY is by Dunn Edwards, and the colorful, contemporary color scheme was chosen to coordinate with and hint at the modern interior updates.

How Modern House Numbers Makes Monument Sign Numbers
Modern House Numbers is a national company founded by Brandy and Rick McLain, and every product is handcrafted by its team. Its numbers and letters are made to order from solid, recycled, 3/8-inch thick aluminum. Each order includes a drilling template and concealed mounting hardware, which allows a floating or flush mount.
The brushed aluminum finish is sealed with a water-based UV protectant. For coastal or industrial areas, the company recommends a powder coat finish.
Choosing Size for Monument Signage
The IVY's mix of 15-inch letters with 8-inch and 12-inch numbers shows how size can create hierarchy on a monument: the property name reads first, and the address numbers read clearly beneath it. Modern House Numbers publishes a viewing distances and sizing guide so property owners can confirm a size will be legible from where people will be looking.
Monument Signs as Part of an Apartment Renovation
For multi-family owners, the lesson from The IVY is that signage belongs in the renovation plan, not at the end of it. The monument signs, the paint, the hardware and the landscaping all worked together to present a 70-year-old complex as a contemporary luxury property while respecting its neighborhood.
Installing Monument Sign Numbers
Modern House Numbers lists monument signs among its recommended installation areas, alongside entrances, eaves, fences, columns and garages. Its guidance is to choose a location with building or site lighting for nighttime visibility and to pick the finish that maximizes contrast and legibility against the sign face. Products can be mounted on wood, stucco, stone, brick, concrete and metal.
